What does JAZreturns do?

Q: What is JAZreturns?          ^top
A: JAZreturns is a subscription based conversion tracking reporting service that provides detailed information on the effectiveness of your online marketing efforts.

JAZreturns conversion tracker will show you exactly what is driving your sales and help you accurately measure your return on investment.

JAZreturns works by tracking the online conversions on web sites. An online conversion occurs when a person performs an action on your site that you deem to be valuable, such as a purchase, signup, quote request or inquiry. The JAZreturns service measures these conversions, and ultimately helps you identify how your web site is performing.

Daily, weekly and monthly JAZreturns reports are then e-mailed to you that report on the desired actions that occurred on your site. The JAZreturns reports also show exactly how the customers found your web site and the success of your online marketing.

Q: How can I benefit from using JAZreturns?          ^top
A: When you have access to the JAZreturns analysis reports, you can make smarter online marketing and business decisions. Given better data and analysis, you can better measure your overall return on investment (ROI) for your whole web site. By using JAZreturns you will:

  • drive more sales with fewer ad dollars
  • discover what your customers are actually looking for
  • reduce your losses from fraudulent orders in just minutes
  • know exactly which referring sites, e-mail and ad campaigns produce sales
  • enhance sales forecasting with lead time analysis
  • increase your ROI on all advertising
  • compare all of your PPC advertising side by side to see which PPC engines are producing the best results

Tracking desired actions

Q: What does JAZreturns track?          ^top
A: JAZreturns tracks events that occur through your web site. The events are actions that you consider to be of value to your business. The events are called 'desired actions'. You can see what 'desired action' means on this page.

Q: What type of events can JAZreturns track?          ^top
A: JAZreturns tracks events called 'desired actions'. The types of desired actions that JAZreturns can track include tracking sales, e-mail newsletter subscriptions, online registrations, online quote requests, online demonstration requests, online contact form completion.

Q: What desired actions can JAZreturns track?          ^top
A: JAZreturns can track desired actions including sales, online registrations, e-newsletter sign-ups, online quote requests, online contact form inquires, online demonstrations.

Q: Can several types of Desired Actions be tracked in the one JAZreturns report?          ^top
A: It is possible to track several types of desired actions on the one web site using JAZreturns.
However, you will generally receive the most meaningful information through JAZReturns by tracking what you consider to be the most important desired action on your web site.

For example, if you have an e-commerce site, tracking the sales is the best desired action to track. If you have a site where you receive online registrations and online contact form inquires, you may choose to track only the online registrations, or, the online registrations and the online contact form inquires. If you have a site with an e-newsletter sign-up option you may like to track those sign-ups and your online contact form inquires.

Q: What happens if a person performs two desired actions, what will the JAZreturns report show?          ^top
A: If a person for example purchases an item on the 1st of February 2003 after being referred to your site the previous week from the Google search engine and the same person on the same computer places another order on the 6th of June 2003 who was referred by your company newsletter, JAZreturns would record all of the visits from that customer. The JAZreturns report would show the initial visit from Google in January, 2003. It would then show the visit where the purchase occurred on the 1st of February, 2003. Any subsequent visits will be shown and attributed to that same person and then with the purchase on the 6th of June, 2003 the referrer in the JAZreturns report would be 'repeat customer' (unless you disable the 'repeat customer' option, in which case the referrer would appear as the original referrer, which is Google in this example.)

Tracking Pay Per Click Questions

A:JAZreturns will help to show you where your advertising dollar is most effective by letting you know exactly which PPC engines, PPC campaigns and PPC keywords produce sales or desired actions.

JAZreturns allows you to accurately measure the return on your PPC advertising campaigns and know where to spend your valuable marketing dollars.

PPC analysis in JAZreturns consists of three core reports.
1. Engine Analysis : See exactly what PPC engines are producing sales and the amount of revenue they are generating.

2. Campaign Analysis : See exactly which campaigns within each PPC engine are producing sales and compare those to other campaigns in other PPC engines.

3. Keyword Analysis : See which keywords from the PPC engines are producing sales.

Though, our clients have told us that the Pay Per Click campaign analysis on of the most valuable parts of the JAZreturns report. We strongly recommend that if you use PPC advertising that you use the PPC campaign analysis tool. The PPC campaign analysis tool investment is only a fraction of the price paid for PPC advertising.

Q: I use the Overture PPC 'Tracking URLs' option, does that mean I do not have to add a JAZreturns code to my URLs on my Overture PPC ads?          ^top
A: Yes. You do not have to modify your Overture URLs provided you have the "Tracking URLs" option switched on in your Overture account.

Q: With the Overture 'Tracking URLs' option, how will my Overture ads be grouped in terms of campaigns?           ^top
A: The Overture 'Tracking URLs' feature will group a campaign according to the term you bid on. e.g. "wedding ring"
However, in the keywords report, you will actually see the real keyword typed in by the customer, e.g. "wedding rings".

Tracking keywords

Q: Can JAZreturns track the keywords that a person used?          ^top
A:Yes, JAZreturns can track the keywords that a person used in organic search engine results and through PPC engines. JAZreturns will only report on the keywords that were used which resulted in a sale or desired action.

Tracking customer visits

Q: Will JAZreturns group all of the visits from one person together?          ^top
A: Yes, if the same person who performs a desired action visits your web site on several occasions (person uses the same computer), JAZreturns will group of all those visits as being from the one person. Once that person performs a desired action, the JAZreturns reports would show all of the visits that that person made.

Q: If a person visits my web site more than once, which referrer will the JAZreturns report show?          ^top
A: JAZreturns will track the referrer for every visit that a person makes to your site. For example, a person may be referred to your web site from a PPC advertising ad and few days later may be referred to your site from Google search engine. Both referral methods would be attributed to that person and show in the JAZreturns reports.
Though for the purposes of attributing a 'desired action' to a particular referrer, the very first referrer would be attributed as being the referrer for that desired action. In this example, the referrer in JAZreturns for conversion analysis purposes would be the PPC ad.

Q: Is the tracking secure?          ^top
A: JAZreturns will track the desired actions that occur on your web site, and any associated revenue tracking for transactions placed through your web site. All information recorded in the JAZreturns tracking can only be accessed through the JAZreturns reports. JAZreturns reports are not sent to any third parties. You can also view the JAZreturns privacy policy.

Comparison with other services

Q: What is the difference between JAZreturns and a web statistics program?          ^top
A: JAZreturns offers a wide range of benefits to business owners, sales managers and marketing managers that are not offered by web statistics programs.

Web site statistics are built to record technical information about a web site. Web statistics programs were not built to help business owners/managers make business decisions about their web site.

For example, the log files will show total numbers of visitors or user sessions (a person who visits 10 times will be shown as 10 visitors, rather than one visitor). Referrer logs are also difficult and timely to interpret, contain inaccurate country information based on domain name (an Australian visitor using bigpond.com an Australian ISP service would be recorded as a visitor from the US as they are using a .com domain).

JAZreturns only measures what matters - sales or actions.

JAZreturns shows you an easy to understand summary of :

    • Number of new visitors (not a new visitor for the same person each time they visit)
    • The country where the person actually comes from based on the location of their computer.
    • The referrers that produced sales - not all referrers whether they produced sales or not.
    • The conversion rate based on the referrer and the search term used.
    • Pay-per-click analysis
      • Feature  Web Stats programs  JAZreturns  Benefit
Visitors Duplicates visitors New visitors only See results of advertising campaigns (not the same people coming over and over)
Country Inaccurate - normally based on domain of ISP 95% Accurate - based on location of visitor's computer Focus marketing efforts based on countries
Referrers All referrers Referrers that produce sales Which referrers make you money and which don't
Search Terms All search terms used Search terms that produce sales Which search terms make you money and which don't
Reports Online only. Long and difficult to interpret e-mail reports with the analysis already done for you Instant understanding of how your business is going and which marketing is working

Q: What is the difference between JAZreturns and the Google Adwords Conversion Tracker?          ^top
A: There are many benefits available with JAZreturns that are not available with the Google Adwords Conversion Tracker.

The primary difference between the services is that the Google Adwords Conversion Tracker only tracks and reports on actions resulting from Google Adwords PPC ads. That gives a very limited picture of your web site's success and return on investment.

JAZreturns tracks and reports on all marketing efforts and referrers including all search engines (organic results) such as Google, Yahoo and MSN; all PPC engines such as Google Adwords, Overture, Sprinks, FindWhat; together with e-newsletters, paid inclusion, banners and buttons and affiliate programs.

Q: What is the difference between JAZreturns and the Overture Conversion Tracker?          ^top
A: There are many benefits available with JAZreturns that are not available with the Overture Conversion Tracker.

The primary difference between the services is that the Overture Conversion Tracker only tracks and reports on actions resulting from Overture PPC ads.

Performance and reliability

Q: Will this conversion tracking slow down my site?          ^top
A: The JAZreturns code is added to the bottom of web pages. That means that all of the other code on the web page will load first before the JAZreturns code. So technically the JAZreturns code will take a slightly longer time to load that the page otherwise would have taken, the visitor will be able to view the page in full whilst the JAZreturns code is loading, so there will not be any notable difference in load time from the visitor's perspective.

Q: Where are your JAZreturns servers located?          ^top
A: There are currently multiple JAZreturns servers located in the US.

Q: What happens to my site if JAZreturns server cannot be reached?          ^top
A: If for some reason a JAZreturns server cannot be reached there will not be any noticeable effect on the functionality of your web site (because the JAZreturns script is at the bottom of the page and the page will already have loaded.)

JAZreturns packages

Q: Which JAZreturns package should I choose?          ^top
A: There are three easy steps to choosing the best JAZreturns package for your site.

1. If you have an e-commerce site you will choose either the E-business Silver, E-business Gold or E-business Enterprise packages.
If you have any other type of site (non-ecommerce site) you will choose either the Lite or Pro service.

2. Next, determine approximately how many people visit your web site.
To do this, you should looks at your web site log files or basic web statistics package. You should look at the 'user sessions' field. That 'user session' value will give you a very general indication of your monthly web site usage.
To see which JAZreturns plans are available to you - look at the different 'visitor' quotas for the JAZreturns packages and eliminate the packages that are not suitable for you.
You will need to choose a plan that has a higher visitor quota than the number of 'user sessions' than you currently know you have.

3. Choose your optional-add ons.
If you want all three add-ons, choose the E-business Enterprise package that includes all three add-ons. The E-business Gold package includes the Fraud Alert E-mails automatically. The other plans have the add-ons as optional.

If you use Pay Per Click advertising, you should choose the PPC analysis add-on.

If you have an e-commerce web site that accepts product sales and you sell products internationally, you should choose the Fraud Alert E-mail add-on.

If you would like to further analysis the data collects by JAZreturns, you should choose the CSV/Excel data export add-on.

Q: What is the minimum term for JAZreturns?          ^top
A: The JAZreturns service is licenced on a monthly basis (month to month). Your JAZreturns licence will automatically renew each month until you request to stop using the JAZreturns service.

Q: What is the difference between the e-commerce and non-ecommerce JAZreturns packages?          ^top
A: The Lite and Pro JAZreturns services are designed for web sites that do not accept online sales. The E-business JAZreturns services, the Silver, Gold and E-business Enterprise services are designed to be used with e-commerce web sites that accept online sales.
The Lite and Pro JAZreturns packages will still measure all of your referrals for your site. The Lite and Pro packages however do not offer revenue tracking, simply because online sales are not being recorded.

Q: Can I use a non-ecommerce JAZreturns package if I have an e-commerce web site?          ^top
A: Technically, you can use the Lite or Pro service if you have a e-commerce web site - though, you should note that the Lite and Pro JAZreturns packages do not offer revenue tracking so the JAZreturns reports would not show the dollar values of the sales generated nor the dollar conversion rates. For this reason, we very strongly suggest that all e-commerce web sites use one of the E-business JAZreturns packages.

Q: Can I use an e-business JAZreturns package if I have a non-ecommerce web site?          ^top
A: If you have a non-ecommerce web site you should not use the E-business JAZreturns packages. This is simply because the E-business packages includes revenue tracking which is not appropriate nor relevant for a non-ecommerce web site that does not generate sales.

Q: What is the difference between the Lite service and the Pro packages?          ^top
A: The Lite and Pro services are similar is all of their features. There are two differences between the Lite and Pro packages.

1. The Pro package is for larger sites that have upto 5,000 visitors per month whereas the Lite package is for sites with fewer visitors of upto 1,000 visitors each month.
2. The Pro package includes country analysis.

Q: What is the difference between the Pro service and the E-business Silver package?          ^top
A:The Pro package is designed for non-ecommerce web sites. The E-Business silver package is designed for e-commerce web sites. This means that the E-business Silver reports offers revenue tracking whilst the Pro version will track revenue.

Q: What is the difference between the E-business Silver and the E-business Gold package?          ^top
A:The E-business Silver and E-business Gold packages can both be used for an e-commerce web site. There are two differences between the Silver and Gold packages.
1. The E-business Silver package is for the e-commerce web sites with fewer visitors, upto 5,000 visitors per month, whereas the Gold package is for sites with visitors up to 15,000 visitors per month.
2. The E-business Gold package automatically includes the Fraud Alert E-mail add-on, whereas with the Silver package, the Fraud Alert E-mail is an optional add-on at an additional price.

Q: What is the difference between the E-Business Gold and E-Business Enterprise package?          ^top
A: The E-business Enterprise package is for larger web sites with visitors of 40,000 or more each month. The E-business Enterprise package also includes all of the JAZreturns add-ons - the Fraud Alert E-mails, the Pay Per Click analysis and the Excel/CSV data exports. Gold packages is for sites with visitors upto 15,000 each month and has the option add-ons Pay Per Click analysis and Excel/CSV data exports available at an additional price.

Q: Can I use the Fraud Alert E-mail service with any JAZreturns package?          ^top
A: The Fraud Alert E-mail service is available for use with all of the e-business packages. It is not appropriate for the Lite and Pro packages as non-ecommerce web sites do not have sales and accordingly do not receive fraudulent online orders. The Fraud Alert E-mail add-on is included with the Gold and Enterprise level packages.

Q: What happens if I receive more visitors than my monthly quota?          ^top
A: It is okay if your visitors exceed your monthly quota in a particular month. Your JAZreturns service will still continue to be fully functional and operational for your site. For any visitors above your quota, the small excess usage quota will simply be added to your JAZreturns payment in the following month. The excess usage is a small amount for each additional 1,000 visitors to your web site. If you continued to exceed your monthly quota for several consecutive months, it is generally best to move the the next available plan with a higher visitor quota.

Q: How is the number of visitors measured for monthly quota purposes?          ^top
A: The number of 'visitors' for monthly quota purposes is calculated as the sum of the 'new visitors' to your site and the 'repeat visitors' to your site in the relevant month. You will see the 'new visitors' and 'repeat visitors' in your JAZreturns reports.

General

Q: How many pages can I use JAZreturns on?          ^top
A: You can use the JAZreturns tracking on all of the pages of your web site. In fact, we highly recommend that you add JAZreturns tracking to all of your web pages. That means that even if a person does not enter your site through your home page (this is very common), you will be able to track that person from all pages that they enter your web site.

Q: Can I use JAZreturns on all of my web sites?          ^top
A: Yes, you can use one JAZreturns package for multiple web sites. If you use one JAZreturns package across multiple sites you should note that you all of the desired actions from all of those sites would be combined in the one report. If you wanted separate reports for separate web sites, you will need to have a JAZreturns account for each of your web sites.

Q: What is the minimum term for JAZreturns?          ^top
A: The JAZreturns service is licenced on a monthly basis (month to month). Your JAZreturns licence will automatically renew each month until you request to stop using the JAZreturns service.

Q: Do I need to add a special tracking code to all of the URLs on my web site?          ^top
A: No, you do not need to add special JAZreturns code to all of your URLs.
So for all organic search engine referrals you do not need to add a special code to your URLs.
Though, if you would like to use the PPC analysis feature of JAZreturns you will need to add a small piece of code to only those URLs used with your PPC ads.
You can also (though not essential) add a special JAZreturns code to the articles and links in your e-newsletters and other online ad campaigns.

Q: Does the JAZreturns service require redirection to a third party server?          ^top
A: No, the JAZreturns service does not require you to modify your URLs or to force your pages to be redirected to a third party server for the purpose of tracking.

Q: If during the checkout process, my customers leave our site to go to a third party check out site will JAZreturns work for my set up?          ^top
A: If you can add the JavaScript code to the "thank you" page then it will work. If the "thank you" page is on your site, then this will not be a problem for you. If the "thank you" page is on the third party site, then you will have to see if you can add JavaScript code to that third party page.

Q: Do the country statistics represent the 'true' country of origin. For example, will Bigpond.com be seen as from the US - will that show up as Australia or US for the country result?          ^top
A: Yes, these the JAZreturns information represents "true" country of origin and are over 95% accurate (unlike your traditional web statistics/web logs' country stats which are based on the domain name and treat bigpond.com as US).

Q: Why do some of the referrers shown in my normal web statistics not appear in the JAZreturns reports?          ^top
A: JAZreturns focuses on the actions that you deem valuable. JAZreturns only reports on those 'desired actions' that occur on your web site. For example, if your desired action is a sale, JAZreturns will only show the referrers that generated a sale for you, not the other referrers that did not generate a sale. So there may be referrers in your web statistics package that do not appear in JAZreturns because they did not produce a desired action for you. JAZreturns was specifically designed to highlight the 'desired actions' rather than a long list of referrers that didn't produce results for your site.

Terminology

Q: What is a desired action?          ^top
A: A desired action is specific type of user behaviour that you deem valuable. For example, if you have an e-commerce web site, you would deem a sale to be valuable. A sale is a type of desired action that you can track using JAZreturns.

Q: What is the Fraud Alert E-mail?          ^top
A: The JAZreturns Fraud Alert E-mail service is a service that sends an instant e-mail alert to the business to notify them of a potentially fraudulent order. There are several countries that are recognised for generating high numbers of fraudulent orders. The Fraud Alert E-mails help to reduce your loss from fraudulent orders; alert to potentially fraudulent orders (based on high fraud rates from some countries); detect orders that have a fraudulent origin despite having US, AU or EU shipping destinations and detect orders that you would otherwise not know may be fraudulent.

Q: What is country analysis?          ^top
A: Country analysis is an analysis of the country of origin of your 'desired actions'. The results of the country analysis is presented in the JAZreturns reports in the form of a pie graph.
